Monday, April 30 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.
El Día de los niños & El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) is a day created by librarians and educators as a celebration of childhood and bilingual literacy. Come and help us celebrate the day on April 30th at Driftwood Public Library from 5-6:30pm.
With an emphasis on the importance of advocating literacy for every child regardless of linguistic and cultural background, the celebration is cross-cultural and inter-generational. In the words of one of the founders of this annual event, author Pat Mora, “April 30th has become a day for remembering the power of words and books in the lives of our young people and for honoring all the languages spoken in the homes of this country. One in five of our school children comes from a home in which a language other than English is spoken. By honoring these languages, we celebrate our linguistic and cultural wealth.”
While you are here, visit our newly expanded Spanish book collection, both in our Children’s and Adult areas, listen to the drumming group from Oceana Literacy Center, win free books on a “book walk", and see beautiful photos of children from our neighboring Americas. Snacks for children welcome and provided!
